And when she slept, she shut her eyes so tight, the lids looked haphazardly run-stitch together...looked like pillows hurriedly sewn together to not let even a feather slip out...
Lids shut so hurriedly and clumsily literally invite the air in to cause infection. Wash the eyes first, if necessary with tears, and shut them slowly and steadily. Let the eyelashes hug one another tight, but on their own, and in their own rhythm. Till then, keep the eyes open even if they burn.
